March 4 2025, Dear Friends, I was compelled by a court order to cooperate with Elections Alberta’s investigation. That investigation has now concluded, resulting in fines of $7,500 against me personally and $112,500 against the Take Back Alberta Society. As the sole remaining board member of Take Back Alberta, I am responsible for both fines.
At the heart of this issue is a fundamental disagreement between Elections Alberta and all freedom loving people, over whether Take Back Alberta meetings constitute election advertising. The Elections Commissioner has ruled that they do. However, those of you who have attended these meetings know they were not election advertising. They were about me sharing my story and encouraging people to get involved in politics.
My legal counsel and I firmly believe that if the Elections Commissioner’s ruling stands, the Alberta Elections Act is unconstitutional, as it directly violates our freedoms of association and expression. Therefore, I will be appealing the decision, and if necessary, I will challenge the Alberta government in court over the constitutionality of the law.
To date, I have personally spent over $50,000 on legal costs during this investigation. I have also refused to submit the names of our donors for publication by Elections Alberta because these donations were not intended for election advertising. However, I can no longer shoulder the financial burden of this legal battle alone.
We need to raise $20,000 to cover the legal retainer for our appeal. If 200 people contribute $100 each, we will reach our goal. With over 3,000 past donors to Take Back Alberta,
I believe this is achievable.
If you would like to contribute, please donate using the following link: https://shorturl.at/5HOCc The funds will be deposited directly into our Bow Valley Credit Union account and will be used exclusively for legal expenses or necessary administrative costs, such as the email service used to send this message. Thank you for your continued support. Yours in Freedom,David Parker |
